Breaking News: Lindelof tells friends £38million deal to join Man United is done

Victor Lindelof has told friends a deal with Manchester United is on the verge of completion.
And the Swedish defender could play his last game for Benfica on Wednesday
before moving to Old Trafford next month.

United have sent scouts to watch Lindelof repeatedly this season. And Jose Mourinho ran the rule over the 22-year-old himself during Sweden's 2-1 defeat to France in November.

United have so far refused to confirm or deny a deal for Lindelof, who moved to Benfica from Swedish side Vasteras in 2012, is close.

Manchester United are ready to fast-track attempts to sign Benfica defender Victor Lindelof in January

But it is understood talks have taken place over a deal that could end up costing United £38m and Lindelof is said to be confident the transfer will go through when the window reopens.

Mourinho said last week he was 'calm' about the prospect of making changes to his squad in the January transfer window.

Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay, who have started just four games between them this season, are the subject of interest from Everton while Bastian Schweinsteiger has offers from America, including Chicago Fire.

Matteo Darmian, Ashley Young and Marouane Fellaini have also been linked with moves away next month.

And a number of Championship clubs are interested in signing goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on loan until the end of the season.

There is also speculation linking United with a move for Southampton's Jose Fonte, although the Premier League club insist they have had no formal contact over the Portuguese defender.

Ibrahimovic has proved he's a superman - Mourinho

Lindelof, who can play at centre-back and right-back, has played 21 times for Benfica this season but could play his last game against Rio Ave on Wednesday.

If he does move to Old Trafford, he will be giving up Champions League football at least until next season.

Benfica finished second in their group behind Napoli and have been drawn against Borussia Dortmund in the last-16.
